Ideal for: Advanced divers
This small tropical coastal country is famed for its natural beauty, temple ruins and diverse eco-systems above and below the waves. Located south of the Yucatan with western and southern borders with Guatemala, Belize has a dense jungle interior ready for exploring and, at 185 miles long, the second longest barrier reef in the world. The diving in Belize is second to none in the Caribbean. There are stunning coral atolls with some of the most pristine reefs and bustling marine life to be found, and of course the famous Great Blue Hole, which is on many divers to-do list. Most of the diving departs from Belize City and the surrounding Cays, and heads to the Turneffe and Lighthouse Atolls for some spectacular day trips. There is also good local diving around Ambergris Cay and Cay Caulker catering to all levels of experience.
The world famous Great Hole is a must for divers visiting Belize. Created when a huge underwater cavern collapsed, the Great Hole is a spectacular dive with stunning topography and, if you are in luck, a Reef Shark or two.
The Belize Barrier Reef is the second longest in the world and is home to a variet of hard and soft corals and marine life. The more remote atolls such as Lighthouse Reef and Turneffe offer great marine diversity and unforgettable dives with Eagle Rays, Stingrays, Angelfish and much more.
